Our Deacons

As a particular church within the Bible Fellowship Church denomination, we believe that the role of deacon is one of two offices in the church expressly stated in the New Testament. The position of deacon is presented in the Scriptures as a position not of ruling but of service. This position is one of sympathetic service to the church, to the distressed, friendless, or sick. Our deacons look to the example of our Lord Jesus Christ to fulfill this calling, and are committed to serving God and HIs church through various ways.

Acts 6:1-4 Now in these days when the disciples were increasing in number, a complaint by the Hellenists arose against the Hebrews because their widows were being neglected in the daily distribution. And the twelve summoned the full number of the disciples and said, "It is not right that we give up preaching the WOrd of God to serve tables. Therefore, brothers, pick out from among you seven men of good repute, full of the Spirit and of wisdom, whom we will appoint to this duty. But we will devote ourselves to prayer and to the ministry of the word."

1 Timothy 3:8-10 Deacons likewise must be dignified, not double-tongued, not addicted to much wine, not greedy for dishonest gain. They must hold the mystery of the faith with a clear conscience. And let them also be tested first; then let them serve as deacons if they prove themselves blameless.
